Various Service Sites
Spaces are reserved on a first come, first served basis and capacity at many of the sites is limited so register today!* Registration deadline is Friday, April 5, 2013.
*Must be 18 or older to participate. Please contact the alumni association if you wish to bring a younger volunteer.
During the National Alumni Day of Service, be sure to take pictures and send them to the alumni association so we can post them on our website! Pictures can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
KENT - Location Full
Habitat for Humanity, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., 1510 S. Water St, Kent, OH 44420 (in the old Callahan’s Carpet building); Volunteers will assist with stock and displays.
RAVENNA - Location Full
Loaves and Fishes, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 263 S. Prospect St., Ravenna, OH 44266; This is an outreach ministry to feed those who are in need. Lunch will be provided to volunteers.
Haven of Rest, 9 a.m. - noon, 175 East Market Street in Akron, OH, 44308; Haven of Rest is a faith based rescue mission that serves as a light to the homeless community in and around the Akron area, offering food, shelter, safety, drug rehabilitation and hope to those most in need. Volunteers will meet at the donation center in building 207 (meet at back of building/north side).
Akron Canton Regional Food Bank, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., 350 Opportunity Pkwy 44307 (on the corner of Opportunity and Dart Street – Dart is a one way street); Volunteers will do a variety of activities such as: sort/inspect donated items, label bags for repack or label bottles for soap project, dispense liquid soap, and repack bulk items into smaller quantities. Dress accordingly; working inside a warehouse. Parking/building entrance will be at the shipping and receiving lot (Opportunity Pkwy. – gated area, but will be open for volunteers). Please DO NOT park against the wall facing Opportunity Pkwy. As you enter into the gated area, you will see three dock doors – the Volunteer Entrance is the first door to the left of the three doors and it will be unlocked. Someone will be in the area to greet and direct you. New volunteers must complete the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank Volunteer Application (click here to download the form). Returning volunteers DO NOT need to complete the form.
Cornerstone of Hope, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., 5905 Brecksville Road, Independence, Ohio 44313; Cornerstone of Hope is a center for grieving children, teens and adults. Volunteers will work on various cleaning projects inside or out depending on the weather.
ALUMNI CHAPTER SITES
Stark County, OH Alumni Chapter - Location Full
Massillon Women’s Club, 9 a.m. - noon, 210 4th St. NE, Massillon, OH 44646; Volunteers will be participating in a variety of cleaning projects. Volunteers should park on the street and enter from the side door located on North St. Park on street.
Lake County, OH Alumni Chapter
Lake County Historical Society, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., 415 Riverside Dr., Painesville, OH 44077-5321; The group will be raking and weeding the gardens, scraping walls and painting a museum room(s), and other projects. Light jobs will be available for those volunteers who don't want to do physical work. Lunch will be provided for the volunteers. Volunteers can work all day or volunteer for an hour.
Central OH Alumni Chapter **Note: This service project takes place on Sat., April 6**
HandsOn Central Ohio connects individuals and organizations with civic engagement opportunities. This powerful network links more than 70,000 corporate, faith and nonprofit organizations that are answering the call to serve. The Central OH Alumni Chapter project will be Honeysuckle Removal in the Harrison West Neighborhood. For this project, volunteers will remove invasive honeysuckle along the Olentangy River between W. 5th Avenue and 3rd Avenue. It will occur on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 9 a.m. -noon. The group will meet at 1199 Perry St. Columbus, OH 43201. Park at the Battelle Discovery Center lot on the south side of West 5th Avenue and follow the signs to the Discovery Center. Deadline to RSVP for this location is Tuesday, March 26, 2013.
Southern California Alumni Chapter
San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc. is a private, non-profit agency dedicated to improving the mental health of individuals and families within the community. Primary emphasis is placed on providing services to children, adolescents and transitional age youth with serious emotional disorders, as well as services for adults and older adults with severe and persistent mental illness. The Southern CA Alumni Chapter will be sponsoring a food drive at two Albertsons Market locations. All food items donated will go directly to the mental health center. Volunteers will work at tables collecting food items. Volunteer time TBD. AREA REPRESENTATIVE SITES
Chattahoochee Nature Center, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., 9135 Willeo Road, Roswell, GA 30075. Volunteers will be doing grounds maintenance (cleaning trails, etc.). Please bring a pair of yard gloves.

Mission of Yahweh, 9 a.m. - noon, 10247 Algiers, Houston, TX 77041; Mission of Yahweh is a women and children’s shelter in NW Houston; Alumni will be doing a variety of grounds grooming and painting.
