Alumni Day of Service
Since the first Alumni Day of Service in 2009, alumni and friends have united to help build homes, clean rivers and beaches, prepare meals for families, clean hospice centers, churches, shelters and historical societies and so much more. Join us for next year's Alumni Day of Service on April 29, 2017.
Flashes of Insight on LinkedIn
Join us on LinkedIn for discussions of what it means to survive and thrive in the professional world. We encourage all alumni and students to see what is being shared. Alumni are also invited to share career knowledge or advice by posting to the "Kent State University Alumni Association (official group)" on LinkedIn (one post per topic). Write for the audience of current students and alumni and begin your post with a title. Post about your industry knowledge or first hand professional experience.
Each year the Alumni Association hosts career events for students and alumni. The networking nights feature professionals in several fields who provide career assistance to those new in the field as well as individuals looking to expand their network. A similar event, Careers Over Coffee, involves a panel of alumni from specific fields who cover topics like what skills potential employers are searching for in today's job market. Students will have the opportunity to ask follow up questions over coffee.
Alumni are in an excellent position to tell applicants why Kent State University is unique and a wonderful place to attend college. You can help by volunteering at our Admissions Receptions in key cities and speaking with students and their families about your experiences at Kent State.
You can also serve as a valuable resource to promote Kent State University in your community and by referring prospective students. Our new program, Refer a Future Flash, allows alumni to nominate someone who embodies the qualities Kent State is looking for in future students. Refer a Future Flash today.
Alumni Chapters/Area Representatives
No other volunteer opportunity has the ability to reach more alumni than our chapter volunteers! Alumni volunteers have organized alumni chapters that support common interests and experiences and/or that connect large populations of alumni in key cities keeping Flashes connected to one another and Kent State University.
Chapters count on the involvement and initiative of their volunteers to define the level of their programming. Learn more about our Alumni Chapters here.
This is a great way for alumni to get connected and stay with other Kent State grads in areas across the country without being an official chapter. Our area representatives bring together alumni in different parts of the country for socializing, networking and cheering on Kent State in various athletic events.
Homecoming/Reunion and Other Committees
Whether it's planning for homecoming or selecting scholarship winners, there are several exciting committees that provide an easy way to support Kent State. You might want to consider becoming part of the following committees:
Reunion Committee - Help plan on campus reunions hosted by many different groups, classes and organizations.
Homecoming Committee - Coordinate all aspects of Homecoming - from interviewing students for court, judging the parade to cheering on the Golden Flashes!
Distinguished Teaching Award Selection Committee - Review nominations for one of the most prestigious teaching awards and help determine the finalists.
Scholarship Review Committee - Help choose our 19 scholarship winners each year. This is a great way to give back to our students.
Kent Student Ambassador Selection Committee
An inauguration is not just the formal installation ceremony to celebrate a new university president, but is comprised of a series of events organized around the ceremony. These events provide opportunities for the members of the university family to celebrate all elements of the university, unite those with a stake in the future of the university and move forward together with a common understanding and vision for the future.
When our President is unable to attend a Presidential Inauguration we will look for an alumni delegate who may work on the campus hosting the inauguration to represent Kent State University.
